Thamks for this interesting article Peter. My Great grandfather was the Skipper of this trawler in 1913 when she sailed from Grimsby. I would love to know if you have any more info on the Elk, particularly her WW1 service. I don't know if my GGF was still the skipper when she went to the Dardanelles, but i do know that my Grandfather was on a trawler that went. I don't know if it was the Elk or a different trawler. I believe that there were about 430 Grimsby trawlers requisitioned by the Admiralty so the odds of them both being there on the same trawler would be quite slim. Still its a nice thought isn't it!

Hope you can shed some light!
Regards

Very interesting article. My grandfather was the Petty Officer involved with the testing of the mine detection system. He was awarded the DSM for his service. He pasted away many years ago but my mum is very interested. My grandfather's name was Bernard Donnelly.

Thanks,
