World Shipwrecks

My interest in shipwrecks is not just confined to Devon. Over the years I've travelled quite a lot to see some of the world's greatest shipwreck locations, some very near to home and some the other side of the world.

World Shipwreck Destination Reports:

  • Chuuk, Micronesia:
Truk Lagoon - scene of the WWII Japanese naval fleet's demise
  • Falmouth:
Falmouth - one of the biggest natural harbours in the world with scores of shipwrecks around the treacherous
  • Norway:
The Wrecks Of Narvik - one of the great English / German naval battles of WWII
  • Scilly Isles:
Scilly Isles - probably more shipwrecks per square mile that any other place on earth
  • Scotland:
Scapa Flow - the last resting place of Germany's WWI warships

Individual World Wreck Reports:

  • New Zealand:
H.M.N.Z. Waikato - deliberately sunk to create an artificial reef
  • Bali, Indonesia:
S.S. Liberty - Bali's most popular dive site and uncannily similar to the James Egan Layne in Plymouth
  • Egypt:
Thistlegorm - Egypt's famous cargo carrier
  • Scotland:
H.M.S. Port Napier - A fascinating minelayer wreck in Loch Alsh
