one day my father carried me on his shoulders from the beach , along the rocks to look at the wreck of a landing craft , I remember this vividly because he slipped on the rocks and we both went into the sea ,
we did see the wreck though !
That was probably 60 years ago , today 13/8/18 I went back with my 11 year old grandson (Kyran) .
There is no sign of any wreck , but 60 years is a long time ! BUT YES IT HAD BEEN THERE

Comment on Wreck of the Secil Japan at Hell’s Mouth by Dave Mayall https://www.submerged.co.uk/wreck-secil-japan-hells-mouth.php#comment-311170 Mon, 30 Jul 2018 22:54:30 +0000 http://www.submerged.co.uk/?p=2982#comment-311170 As the coastguard officer on duty at Falmouth Coastguard MRCC operating channel 16 and responding to the initial Mayday call and continuing to operate channel 16 throughout the entire operation , and after the watch finished I went to Culdrose and interviewed the Captain, I strongly advise that you check the facts as you stated as they are sadly incorrect and misleading. To start with the steering did not collapse, the cargo of wood shifted causing the vessel lean over in simple terms and the story goes on from there and far to long for me to type on here. If you want the real story you can contact me. I just like to see the truth in print. Oh yes and nobody has mentioned the brave lifeboat crews that both escorted the vessels and St Ives boat that stood off the Secil Japan during the rescue.

My father, Sven C.B. Eriksson was conceived onboard.

His name was William (Bill) Sutton. That ring any bells for anyone? He passed away in 2003 but I’m sifting through his memoirs. Drop me an email if anyone has any info. Researching for a TV project.

I’m writing a book about bass fishing (“A bass angler’s life”) and wanted to include some information about the Ben Asdale and the wreck at Polridmouth from your website. Would that be OK?
