This is the story of the Oceanic, wrecked in 1914 off Shetland. She was even more luxurious than the Titanic, but she lay undiscovered for nearly sixty years untill two lads salvaged most of her using more or less stardard sport diving gear and an inflatable. Well she was mostly in 30 ft.Its an astonishing tale of what can be achieved if one is daft enough.

DearSir,
No disrespect to your late father, but i am afriad that he is incorrect in saying that the Oceanic was ‘more luxurious than the Titanic’. The Oceanic was 700 ft long, weighed 17,000 tons and had a top speed of 21 knots and was doubtlessly considered luxurious at the time of her maiden voyage in 1899.
When Titanic sailed on her maiden voyage, she was 883 ft long, weighed over 46,000 tons and had a top speed of 24 knots. Her larger size meant more facilities for passengers including a Turkish Bath; a swimming pool, an A la Carte Restaarant; a Cafe Parisien; suites with private promenades and four elevators (including one for second class passenges.
Also, Oceanic did not remain undisovered for sixty years, as the first salvage attempt was made in 1924.
