HM Submarines in Camera, 1901-1996
This book has masses of photos which you really can’t find elsewhere, plus a very authorative text by people who really know what they are talking about. Most of the photos are from the Royal Navy’s Submarine Museam, and with the text give good insights into how it all started and where its going.(nowhere if the politicians have their way)

Served on the Artful in 1959 as a sonar operator. We were fitted with 186 long range sonar and spent a lot of time carrying out ranging of the sonar with help of Shackleton maritime aircraft. We also went to New London USA with HMS Adamant which was our depot ship in Faslane. This was a bit before Faslane was built. I remember we had a shore side canteen in Faslane run by an old lady called Mrs Crystal who didn’t muck about if you were caught swearing. I joined Subs in 1959 leaving 1980 on pension. I would love to hear from anyone who might remember these days.
